i wanna get into star trek, but it’s kind of daunting given the sheer fucking amount of content— do i start with the 1966 show, or something more recent? do i go in release order or chronological?

I started with TNG and I recommend it. You'll like the original series more if you do.

N Squared has the only actually useful YT guide:
Star Trek Watch Order Guide - Classic Star Trek

DS9 pilot may be one of the most trek Trek stories of all time, but I wouldn't suggest it as a starting point

Anonymous 25/04/25(Fri)15:11 No. 22973

I started with the recent movies and loved the setting. Honestly I don't think the order matters a lot.
I watched all of it in chronological order because I liked the way technology improved over time, and I had a blast.
All shows bring something to the table, even if I didn't like the latest ones, save for Prodigy because I liked Voyager.

Start with "the Next Generation"

pretty much all you need

then the original series for the kitschyness

theyre kinda stuck riding out the post-ironic zeitgeist where sincerity doesnt exist but as you point out this contradicts and rubs up against them making money by this point. Theyre just hoping for hate watching, meme moments, and mystery box storytelling and its all out of desperation.

My favorite film of his has to be Twin Peaks FWWM; That movie has some of the best acting I have ever seen. That scene where Laura is laying on the grass and finds out the identity of BOB is just so horrifying. Also it is Easily Angelo Badalamenti's best film score; "The Voice of Love" is such a perfect ending song for the film.
I also recently rewatched Lost Highway and gained a new appreciation for that film.

Possibly the most pseud fanbase of all time,
so you have some characters having a mental breakdown and use cheap scare tactics and throw in muh tragic backstory and retards will gulp it up every time because the feeling of agony is relatable and they are unable to articulate further how the movie or scene impacted them beyond the gutteral emotion of it. Basically you could could put random filters and shit special effects in blair witch project, do some minor edits and the same dipshits who like his movies would say the same about it "wooooah so dreamlike! so profound!"
